The consistent supply of minerals is a crucla tool in manufacturing and industry throughout the USA. In order to maintain a high level of production, the US government has partnered with other countries in an attempt to secure reliable supply chains. This will help to encourage investment and growth while ensuring that the highest environmental and social standards are met. Such a partnership is essential in today’s global market and will help to keep the USA at the forefront of innovation and production.
The European Union is the only MSP partner nation outside of Europe. Canada, Australia, Finland, Germany, France, Japan, the Republic of Korea (Republic of) Sweden, the United Kingdom (United Kingdom), the United States of America (USA), and the European Commission are among the other countries that will participate in the new agreement to secure these mineral supply lines.
We need this consistent supply of raw materials like nickel, cobalt and lithium to produce the green innovations that will help us combat climate change. It is estimated the that USA will need a supply of up to 6x its current lithium imports and production to meet its carbon emission goals for 2050.
This is a daunting task, and one that will require close partnerships like this MSP in order to achieve.
Other nations are also feeling the pressure to find new and more reliable sources of these critical minerals. China, which currently dominates the world’s supply of many of these minerals, has been cutting back on exports in recent years. This has caused many other nations to scramble to find new sources, which has often led to sub-par environmental and social regulations in an attempt to get the minerals quicker.
The MSP seeks to remedy this by providing a way for nations to work together to create a more stable and ethical supply of critical minerals.
